Daisy likes lazing around in the sun and loves nothing more than a good bone to chew on. Being a St. Bernard, she has quite thick hair, so she was the perfect choice for this lesson.

Begin by touching your puppy all over. Praise and reward good behaviour.
Check your puppy's paws for cuts, scrapes and thorns. If necessary, use puppy-safe antiseptic to dab on little wounds.
Check your puppy's eyes. They should be nice and clear. If they are cloudy, consult your veterinarian.
Check your puppy’s ears for signs of waxy build-up. You might need to use an ear cleaning solution.
Check your puppy's teeth and gums. Brush regularly using a doggy toothbrush and toothpaste.
Part your puppy's hair right to the skin. Check for bald spots, flaky skin, lumps, fleas and parasites.
Let your puppy sniff the grooming equipment, just to get him used to it
Brush your puppy. This will remove excess hair and keep his coat in great condition.
Using clippers, trim his nails. Be careful not to trim them too much, just like with humans, this can be painful.
Grooming should be done regularly. Try to do it as often as you can.
